The Millennium Creek Stream Reclamation and Fish Habitat Enhancement Project was initiated by a partnership between the Town of Cochrane, Parks and Facilities Division and the Bow Valley Habitat Development.
Goal of the Project
The ultimate goal was to reclaim and enhance a small spring creek that had been impacted for years by abuse, mainly due to silt loading from both residential development and road transportation impacts. Small spring creeks are often overlooked in their importance to our main stream systems. In the Cochrane area, most small streams are dependent on feeder springs for their main source of high-quality water and fish habitat.
An important message in this objective is that municipal, provincial and federal government agencies can work with small business, corporate business and NGOs to achieve a positive and long-term benefit to our natural stream resources and the aquatic environment that they provide.
