Cochrane Cares Reports High Satisfaction,
Many Areas to Work On!
The Cochrane Cares report outlines positive feedback on some Cochrane services, and the gaps in services for some groups.
The Cochrane Cares: Regional Well-Being Review report was presented at the Council meeting on June 12.
Three-quarters of participants said they were satisfied or very satisfied with the overall quality of life in our Town.
The top answers to “What do you like most about living in and around Cochrane?” were location, friendly and supportive people and small-town feel.
Key issues facing residents were identified as traffic/roads, growing too fast and public transportation.
Youth in particular identified a number of issues impacting their quality of life, including public transportation and the lack of places to hang out, work and access post-secondary education.
Cochrane Cares was led by Cochrane’s Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) and provided residents with a variety of opportunities over seven weeks to share their experience of living in Cochrane through online surveys, community events, sounding boards and focus group discussions. Over 1,200 people from Cochrane and the surrounding area participated.
The Cochrane Cares review was designed to engage the community in identifying current assets, gaps, opportunities and priorities in social, recreational and health needs. The overall goal was to produce a comprehensive assessment for use by the Town of Cochrane to inform decisions over the next several years.
The report was accepted as information by Council. FCSS will share the results with other service agencies, and will use the results to guide strategic planning over the next five years.
