“Dreaming Alberta,” the play presented as part of Cochrane’s organics program launch in April, has won a Municipal Sustainability in Action Award from the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association.
The award letter said Cochrane was chosen for, “demonstrating innovation by commissioning a Play - Dreaming Alberta, to raise awareness of environmental issues in the area and promote the launch of the Town's residential organics collection program.”
Dreaming Alberta was created to promote the new residential organics collection program just before collection began. The play follows five diverse characters as they solve a mystery in a forest.
It combined with other communications and marketing activity and resulted in a total of 65% residential waste diversion from landfill in the first month of organics collection, exceeding the goals of the program.
An edited version of the play is available on YouTube.com/TownofCochrane.
The award will be presented at the AUMA convention in November.
