ROTTEN EGG SMELL?

Logo web newsfeed.jpg

Town staff have a received calls from a few residents with a rotten egg-like smell in their homes. All the homes are located close to storm ponds.
After investigation, here’s what appears to be happening:

  • vegetation in storm ponds is decaying
  • gas is being created, but is trapped under the ice
  • gas smell is entering homes via storm sewer system, weeping tile and sump pump connections

Fire and Roads crews are working together starting tomorrow to cut holes in storm ponds to provide an escape route for the gas.

If you a have a rotten egg-like smell in your home, cover or plug your weeping tile and sump pump connections and wait for the smell to dissipate.
