Communities all over the world are going green and Cochrane is proud to be one of them. Going green is more than a trend; it is a choice. In the past 10 years, Cochrane has adopted many green practices, making us a leader in the community.

Zero Waste at School & Community Groups
Zero isn't just at home — schools and community groups also play an essential role in teaching sustainable waste management behaviour that will stick with our youth for life. Town of Cochrane Waste & Recycling staff can assist your school or community group by providing:
- Tours of the Cochrane Eco Centre
- Waste Reduction Week, Environment Week and Earth Day Presentations
- Classroom presentations: 3R’s, Waste in Our World, Composting
- Assist in setting up Litterless Lunch, Pack it in/Pack it out programs
- Waste Audits
- Waste Recycling Program set up assistance
- Pitch in Events (litter picking)
- E-Waste & Paint or Tire Round Ups

Waste Diversion at Community Events
Did you know that the Town of Cochrane has three stream waste diversion containers that you can borrow at no charge to help divert your event waste?
If you are hosting a music festival, community bbq or sporting event, the event containers can help your community event send less to landfill.
To book the event containers please fill out this request form.
Signs for each diversion stream are available for free.
Zero Waste Community Events
If you are ready to go that one step further to make your community event a Zero Waste Event, Town of Cochrane Waste & Recycling staff would be happy to guide you through the process, including:
- Zero Waste event planning advice
- Collection company contacts
- Sourcing compostable utensils and dishware
- Use of Eco Centre

Zero Waste Framework
The Town of Cochrane Zero Waste Framework, in harmony with the Cochrane Sustainability Plan will allow us to achieve our Zero Waste goals through continuous planning and flexible and responsive program implementation. - Industrial, Commercial and Institutional (ICI)
- Multi-family recycling was added to the Waste Management Bylaw in July 2014. Multi-family complexes will begin on-site recycling pick-up no later than June 1, 2015.
