Fall is a great time to clean out your gutters, swales and eavestroughs.

Clogged gutters, eavestroughs and swales can cause water backups, leaks and even floods. Clearing them of any debris will ensure water drains properly, avoiding yours and your neighbours’ properties.

Cleaning your gutters & eavestroughs:

  • Clean at least twice a year. Fall and spring are the best times of year.
  • Clear out leaves, branches and all other debris.
  • Avoid cleaning in icy, snowy, or unfavourable conditions.

Cleaning your swales:

  • Clear leaves, branches, ice and other debris to prepare for winter weather, chinooks and spring melt.
  • Don’t direct downspouts into swales.
  • Don’t build on top of or block your swales.

It's time to winterize your yard!

Get ahead of the cold and winterize your yard to avoid icy patches, leaks and frozen and burst pipes. Now is the perfect time to make sure your yard is safe and ready for whatever the winter weather brings.

Get your yard ready for winter:

  • Disconnect and drain hoses and taps. Shut off all outdoor water supplies and exterior water valves.
  • Turn off your irrigation system and properly blow out the lines to prevent the lines from bursting.
  • Remove ailing tree and bush limbs to avoid snapping and falling branches when the snow falls.
  • Clean leaves, branches and other debris out of swales, gutters and eavestroughs to evade leaks and floods.
