DESCRIPTION

As part of the Highway 1A Improvements project and realignment of 4th Ave to 5th Ave, a new retaining wall is being constructed to support the updated traffic flow plan and connectivity in our community. The retaining wall provides an exciting opportunity for placemaking; serving as gateway to Cochrane, welcoming visitors and residents and strengthening our identity through a modern take on western heritage.

BACKGROUND

As part of the Highway 1A Improvements project, 4th Avenue will be realigned to 5th Avenue. The “S” curve realignment will direct traffic onto Fifth Avenue and all the way through to Griffin Road. This realignment includes the construction of a retaining wall, stormwater pond and surrounding pathways. 

BUDGET

  • Construction budget: $1.5M
  • Arts Endowment Reserve: $250,000
