Cochrane’s population is 29,277 according to the 2019 municipal census.
Growth in Cochrane is 4.7%, a decrease from the 5.9% seen in the 2018 census.
Cochrane’s census was held between April 1 and 30, with 99% of all residents participating. A contest to encourage online participation resulted in more participants than ever — 57% — completing the form online and entered to win 500 Cochrane Dollars. Stephen and Audrey Zub received their Cochrane Dollars at last night’s Town Council meeting
“Thank you to the community for the great participation,” said Mayor Genung. “A precise census count ensures the Town receives the maximum funding the community is entitled to, as many provincial government sources of funding are awarded on a per capita basis.”
The results have been submitted to Alberta Municipal Affairs. The new population figure should be declared official by the province in September.
