COUNCIL SUPPORTS BUSINESSES WITH NEW GRANT PROGRAM

Business grant program

Town Council has approved a $20,000 program to support local businesses in accessing provincial and federal COVID-19 support programs.

Council approved the COVID-19 Professional Services Grant Program at their meeting March 8.

The program supports local enterprises negatively impacted by COVID-19 to access financial supports available through provincial or federal programs. Businesses can apply for a maximum of $500 towards third-party professional services (bookkeepers and accountants) to assist with program details, gathering required information and preparing/completing documentation.

Mayor Jeff Genung says a healthy economy contributes to the health and well-being of the entire community. “As a municipality, it’s very difficult for us to have a financial impact when it comes to helping businesses or residents impacted by COVID-19,” he says. “This program, identified by the Economic Recovery Task Force and supported by the Cochrane Chamber of Commerce, could potentially see our $20,000 investment multiplied. If this saves one business, or creates one new job, it’s a success.”

The program was brought forward for Council consideration by Cochrane’s Economic Recovery Task Force, established as part of the Town’s COVID-19 response.

"The Chamber is pleased to support this program to help local businesses,” says Kelly Sinclair, Cochrane and District Chamber of Commerce President. “We see this as an important opportunity to collaborate with the Town and provide resources that will make an impact in our local economy,"

The program is expected to launch in mid-March. Professional services can be provided by any licensed professional with a valid Town of Cochrane business license. The program is open to any local business with a valid Town of Cochrane business licence that qualifies for established COVID-19 government support programs.

The program will be managed and administered by the Cochrane & District Chamber of Commerce.
