(Cochrane, AB) – After a successful first year, Cochrane’s temporary patio pilot program will continue for the 2022 patio season.
Under this pilot program, local food and beverage establishments will once again have the opportunity to utilize nearby outdoor spaces, including sidewalk and parking spaces, to create temporary outdoor patios.
“We received positive feedback after the first summer of this program and recognize that there is a desire from local businesses to expand into outdoor spaces and we are here to make that process easier,” said Mike Korman, Director of Planning & Development Services. “When we support local businesses, we support our community. These temporary outdoor patios bring a vibrancy to our outdoor spaces, and an opportunity for customers to enjoy the sunshine while supporting local.”
The program will continue as a pilot this season to provide room for feedback and future enhancement of the program.
Temporary patios are allowed in private parking areas or public property such as sidewalks, municipally owned and reserve parcels as well as in parking stalls on public roads. Upon application, restaurants must provide details, follow specific guidelines, and meet certain criteria. There is a minimal waiting period and no fee.
Once the paperwork is reviewed and approved by Town Planning staff, the patio can begin operations as of May 14, 2022. Permits expire September 30, 2022.
