Cochrane, AB – Spring is here, and residential street cleaning is scheduled to start Monday April 25 at 8am.
Each subdivision will be scheduled for a single day of sweeping outside of the areas waste and recycling or organics collection day. The Roads Department asks for resident cooperation so they can clean up our community.
“After many years of annual street sweeping, we have heard that a single day of sweeping for each subdivision is easier on Cochrane residents,” says Wally Hume, Roads Manager. “You will only need to move your vehicle for one day, and our roads will be clean and safe for summer.”
To effectively clean our roads from curb to curb, vehicles must be removed from the streets. Community Peace Officers will be assisting the Roads Department by patrolling each subdivision, whenever possible, on sweeping day to remind residents to move their vehicles. After all steps have been taken to remind residents, vehicles left on the road will be subject to ticketing.
Residential street sweeping is scheduled for 11 days, ending on May 9. Spring weather can be unpredictable, so additional days will be added to the schedule if work is delayed or cancelled due to weather or mechanical issues.
Notification signs will be placed in each neighbourhood at least 48 hours in advance of sweeping and no-parking signs 24 hours prior. Vehicles should be moved by 8am on the scheduled sweeping day to driveways or parking pads. Parking is also allowed in alleys for those who do not have other off-street parking.
Residents are also asked to move curb ramps and basketball nets. Curb ramps contravene Cochrane’s Streets Bylaw and restrict Town crews from cleaning the streets. Basketball nets should always be private property.
Town crews have started their pre-sweep, which should help reduce the amount of material to pick up during this year’s road clean-up. Street sweeping downtown and on main roads is done mostly at night to avoid traffic.
The full schedule will be posted on cochrane.ca/StreetSweeping. The schedule will be confirmed daily on facebook.com/TownofCochrane and Twitter @TownofCochrane.
