2023 Water Conservation Rebate Applications

  1. Program Information

Cochrane offers residents rebates on water saving landscaping options, rain barrels, toilets and washing machines. Reducing water use lowers your monthly invoice and helps to defer our community needs for enhanced water infrastructure.

All submissions must include proof of purchase for each item.

  2. If you need assistance completing the online application form, please call 403-851-2590.

Paper copies will not be accepted.

  3. Rebate Type - please select all that apply*

  4. Select a rebate for further details and application criteria.

  5. Outdoor water use can account for up to 50% of water use in the summer. Reduce or eliminate grass to reduce your outdoor water use. Receive a 50% rebate on the purchase of rock, drought tolerant ground cover (micro clover, lawn replacement blends), artificial turf, rubber mulch, and hardscape to a maximum of $150.

The lawn alternative rebate is available for homes with and without existing landscaping.

This rebate is applicable to material applied to front and back yards only.

Larger side yards would be considered on an individual basis.

This rebate is not applicable for dog runs, parking areas, or typical side yards. Concrete slabs, retaining walls and border materials do not qualify.

Material must be purchased in the current calendar year to be eligible for a rebate.

A photo of your project is required. Delivery and bag fees are not eligible.

  6. Using wood mulch as groundcover reduces the need for watering and reduces soil erosion. Receive a 50% rebate on the purchase of wood mulch to a maximum of $100.

Wood mulch must be purchased in the current calendar year to be eligible for a rebate.

Delivery and bag fees are not eligible.

  7. Do you have an undeveloped yard and want to try something different? Once established, fescue sod requires no watering other than what mother nature provides.

As part of the Water Conservation Rebate Program, Cochrane is offering residents a $75 rebate for every 500 sq. ft. of fescue sod purchased, to a maximum of 2500 sq. ft. ($375 rebate). Purchases of less than 500 sq. ft. are eligible for a prorated rebate.

Fescue sod must be purchased in the current calendar year to be eligible for a rebate.

    Delivery fees are not eligible.

  8. Collecting and reusing rain water can reduce your utility bill. Receive a 50% rebate on the purchase a rain barrel, to a maximum of $50 per barrel.  Limit of three barrels per application.

Rain barrels must be purchased in the current calendar year to be eligible for a rebate.

  9. Replace your old toilet with a new high-efficiency model and reduce household water consumption. Receive a $50 rebate on the purchase price of a new 4.8L/flush WaterSense approved toilet.

To be eligible for a rebate, your new toilet(s) must meet WaterSense standards; check out WaterSense for more information on approved toilets.

Maximum three toilet rebates per household. Homes built after 2006 and new basement developments are not eligible to receive the rebate.

Toilets must be purchased within one year to be eligible for a rebate.

  10. The average Energy Star Most Efficient clothes washer uses 42 litres of water per load, compared to the average 140 litres used by a standard non-efficient machine. That's about 70 percent less water per load!

The Town of Cochrane offers residents a $100 rebate on the purchase of an Energy Star Most Efficient clothes washer. Homes built after 2013 are not eligible to receive the rebate.

Rebates will only be issued for washing machines that are “Most Efficient” as determined by Energy Star. Please check the complete list of machines that meet this criteria.  To find out more about “Most Efficient” washing machines, visit www.nrcan.gc.ca.

Washers must be purchased within one year to be eligible for a rebate.
