Alberta Transportation updates
May 6, 2026: Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors has provided the following update on construction for the Highway 1A / 22 Interchange project.
Top lift paving (final asphalt layer)
- Paving is expected to start Monday, May 11, and is expected to last two weeks (weather permitting)
- Paving on westbound Highway 1A in the downtown area will require fully restricting access to the Cochrane Ranche parking lot and businesses on 2nd Street for part of one day. The date of this work is still to be confirmed and will be scheduled to minimize access impacts during business hours. The contractor is communicating directly with affected businesses.
- Paving Highway 1A at the west project limits will require single-lane alternating traffic. Work will be scheduled at night to minimize traffic disruption.
- Please watch for message boards on site for specific dates and paving locations
Other work
- Spring construction is now fully underway
- Ongoing activities taking place throughout the site include gravel placement, concrete work, topsoil placement and landscaping, guardrail installation, bridge finishing, streetlighting, line painting and general site clean-up.
- Guardrail installation on the west side of Highway 22 near Sunset Blvd will require closure of the second left turn lane out of Sunset Ridge for approximately 3 weeks, tentatively beginning Monday, May 11.
- The contractor anticipates that work on the project will be substantially completed by the end of June, weather permitting.
Variable lane closures, speed reductions and construction access activities will occur throughout the project site over the next two months. Drivers are asked to drive with caution and obey posted signage.
