(Cochrane, AB) – As a part of Cochrane’s age-friendly initiative, residents of all ages are encouraged to participate in the online community survey, open from July 12 – August 1, 2023.

The Alberta Age-Friendly Recognition Program supports municipalities to respond proactively to the growth of the senior population. The study will look at the built environment, such as transportation, housing, parks and recreation, as well as health services and civic and social environments.

“Our goal is to create an age-friendly community where there are no barriers to access services, programs, businesses and facilities. This research will help us get closer to a community that is inclusive, accessible, and supportive of all residents, throughout their lifespan,” says Kim Krawec, Manager of FCSS, Town of Cochrane. “This survey will play an important role in identifying areas for improvement and understanding the needs of the growing senior population in Cochrane.”

In early June, the public engagement survey was opened to select senior residents as a part of Cochrane’s Seniors’ Week. The same age-friendly survey is now open to all residents on Let’s Talk Cochrane.

Following the survey, various public forums, including targeted focus groups will be held to help further guide the development and plan to bring Cochrane closer to becoming an age-friendly community.
