About

Captain Huw Jeffries Park is a welcoming neighbourhood space to spend time outdoors, meet with friends and connect with neighbours. A pergola and fire features near the north entrance provide a gathering place for the community.

The park honours Captain Huw Jeffries, who served Cochrane for more than three decades. It celebrates his dedication to helping others and his belief in making time for people.

Remembering Captain Huw Jeffries

1971–2024

For more than three decades, Huw Jeffries was part of the heart of Cochrane. He began as a young volunteer firefighter and became one of Cochrane Fire Services’ first full-time members, helping shape the department it is today.

A proud firefighter, gifted teacher and trusted mentor, Huw welcomed people into the fire hall and generously shared his knowledge. He was also a devoted family man and loyal friend who could always be counted on when someone needed help.

Huw believed in living fully, laughing often and making time for the people who mattered. The park carries forward his memory and the example he set:

Live large. Look after one another. Leave things better than you found them.
